Resurgeance

Part of the Resurgeance Series

Media: Oil and palette knife
Dimensions: 1500mm x 1000mm

This painting is about the rebirth of art after being pulled to pieces by tides of family life. I have chosen a powerful icon which is the horse and whimsically patched it together with different pieces of fabric which all portrays different aspects of life.  The horse is surging forward showing the wild passion of withheld desire.

The excitement of the life ahead is showed by the almost carnival like colours and the bright sunny sky. The sea represents freedom but it is not without its hidden dangers. This is reiterated in the way the artist has finger painted spray of the waves in a childlike carefree manner while using muted moody blue and greens to represent the water.

There seems to be an underlying darkness lurking within the water. Again the horse does not show total abandonment running freely on the beach. There is almost a tightness shown in the artist forced control of the sections of fabric. You are required to ask is this freedom masked by a fake gregarious exterior?
